Being in a state of transition is hard. My ‘to-do’ list is large. At times I feel as though I am juggling 100 balls at once. Inching, or honestly, millimetering my way forward. I get to feeling overwhelmed and ineffective in many areas. Like I was not making progress on any fronts in my journey to return to the field. Then I got some great advice, which I want to share with you.

I went to see my Pastor who, thankfully, is a wise man. Explaining my situation he spoke with me about how I was trying to do too many things at one time. Hence the feelings of making little or no progress on anything. He advised me to slow down, and to focus. To help me do this, he suggested I read a book called the One Thing.

The One Thing

The One Thing talks about how people accomplish their goals by focusing on, yes, you guessed it, one thing. The book runs through ideas like leading an imbalanced life (focusing on one thing means other things suffer), figuring out what is important to me, time management, goal setting, how to focus your efforts, and so much more. The idea is to know what’s important to you and explains how to adjust your actions to keep that at the forefront.

This led me to write a mission statement for my life so I would realize what was important to me and help me to focus my efforts that way. So here goes:

My purpose is to help people know Christ, or know Him better, through my teaching and cooking.

So following the advice from my pastor and the book, I picked one thing. I stopped all else and finished the cookbook I was working on. Much Love (Mexico) a baking journey to share the love of Christ. This shares sweet bread recipes I made while serving in Mexico at Amigo Fiel, along with short stories about a time I used the recipe. I gave this book away free to my care team. Plans are in the works to sell this book so this is the last chance for you to get your free copy.  This link will be active until 20Jan20.

I have moved on from the cookbook and am focusing my efforts on the move to Norway now. And yes, I am working on one aspect at a time.

Shoot up a few quick prayers please

  • For pastors, they have tough jobs

  • For the continuing ministries at Amigo Fiel to the people of Mexico

  • For the people of Norway

  • For people feeling overwhelmed with their to do list

  • That we would keep doing that next one thing to get to Norway
